About the Artist

Ged Merino is a Filipino American mixed media artist based in New York. In 2014 he held solo exhibitions at The Drawing Room Gallery in Makati, The Cultural Center of the Philippines and Galeria Expreso del Arte in Bogota Colombia. He was also selected as part of the Art Platform at the Singapore Art Stage last January 2015.

Merino also co-founded Bliss on Bliss Art Projects New York with his wife Carolina Morales. The cross-cultural artist run space provides a platform for experimentation and presentation of new works for contemporary artists, writers, filmmakers and performers.

“My current practice has its origins in textiles. At an early age I was always attracted to color, textures and decorative details of fabrics. When I was young I watched my mother recycle old fabrics from livestock feeds and use various techniques to give the old fabrics new life.  It was a process passed on to her by her family over the years. My process is spontaneous, intuitive, and improvisational I collect discarded artifacts from people’s lives that have been forgotten or left behind intentionally or incidentally.”
