Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan’s activities as husband and wife have long been drawn from collaborative, evolving within the spheres of family and community, including that which they share with other artists. Their projects have been concerned with keeping the home, finding and defining identity, dealing with hardship of journey, orienting oneself in displacement, sensing presences in absence and accumulating memory.
Gaston Damag roots is the indigenous Ifugao, and he relates this to his investigation of the canonical representation of ethnographic objects. He is noted for fusing ethnographic symbols of his material culture in the Cordillera region in the Northern Philippines along with diverse modern industrial materials such as steel, glass and neon lights to address the ways a non-western ethnic culture can navigate around a cultural perspective dominated by the West.
Robert Gutierrez uses a variety of images, references, and intentionally tangled combination of techniques, putting all these complexities into simple pictorial forms. The idea of shapeshifting and folk stories significantly comes into the picture filtered through his cultural Filipino background. Ultimately, these interactions highlights both the simple and complex nature of how we process visual stimuli, the physical and psychological spaces, and our flexible interpretation of both.
Manuel Ocampo is known for his frequent and strategic stylistic drifts in response to new contexts and subject matter. His shows are often constructed around contradictory tendencies, elaborating discrepancies between what a painting appears to be and how it behaves in relation to the structures that legitimate its appearance.
Issay Rodriguez’ works are autobiographical in nature with some creative efforts in between to overcome quasi-solipsism and isolation caused by daily dose of technology that envelopes post-modern life. Through different media and modes of production, she is generally interested in finding balance and ironic intersections between the complexities of memory, place and identity found in daily-life’s context.
Louie Talents’ body of works deal with diary as an art form. In line with this, he is exploring new diary works on visual and narrative possibilities inspired from his childhood memories and from his travels to 20 countries arround the world. He is actively involved in his 6 art projects geared towards artistic excellence and public awareness.
