“Andi taku e sana, Amung taku di sana / All of us present, This is our gathering”is a multimedia collaboration that explores the translation and transmission of culture through different material. The exhibition involves an interdisciplinary process of sound material and field recordings, textile and indigenous weaving practices, and performative notation through video.
Gerardo Tan’s artistic process dwells on the ideas of his works as decoys or sites for new meanings and creative possibilities. The artist obtained his BFA and MFA degrees in Painting at the University of the Philippines and the University of New York at Buffalo, respectively. His work has been exhibited locally and abroad in Berlin, Fukuoka, Gwangju, Melbourne, New York, Singapore and Schenzen. His latest exhibit was at The Drawing Room earlier this year.
Gerardo Tan was conferred the 13 Artists Award by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1988. His other distinctions include the Fulbright-Hays Grant to undertake his Masters in Fine Arts at SUNY Buffalo (1990-92) and the Barbara Schuller’s Art Associates Award in Buffalo, NY (1992).
